The Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research is a global non profit organization committed to improving the understanding and control of cancer through integrated laboratory and clinical discovery. Leveraging its worldwide network of investigators and the ability to sponsor and conduct its own clinical trials, the Institute is actively engaged in translating its discoveries into applications for human benefit.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) has been signed by the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research (LICR), to establish a branch for translational and clinical cancer research in Singapore. This is in collaboration with three Singapore institutions, namely, the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine of the National University of Singapore (YLL-NUS) and the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School (Duke-NUS GMS). A multinational team of researchers, which includes LICR New York Branch Director, Dr. Lloyd J. Old, has shown for the first time that the immune system can stop the growth of a cancerous tumor without actually killing it.
