Map

Consistent with our founder's vision (see statement), the research of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research is conducted at multiple sites rather than at a single location. This model of a global network was chosen to facilitate the worldwide recruitment of outstanding scientists and clinicians, and to draw on the different strengths of a variety of laboratory, clinical, and cultural environments. The Branch staffs, Affiliates, James R. Kerr Program participants and Clinical Trials Center investigators interact closely and strategically to further the research and clinical programs of LICR.

Branches

The nine Branches of LICR are located in seven different countries. Each Branch functions in close association with a leading university or research institute, and a not-for-profit teaching hospital, thus enabling LICR scientists to interact closely with investigators in a wide variety of disciplines. Through laboratory and clinical collaborations, teaching activities, and the training of graduate students, LICR has become an integral part of the academic life of many exceptional institutions.

Affiliates

Affiliates are outstanding scientific and clinical investigators and institutions that are outside the Branch structure, but are closely associated with LICR. The work of the Affiliates complements and extends the research conducted within the Branches, and contributes significantly to LICR's programs.

Clinical Trial Sites

The LICR Clinical Trial Sites combine excellent patient care with cutting-edge research and treatment. Consistent with the LICR's Clinical Trials Model, the staff of the Clinical Trial Sites work actively with LICR scientists to explore the therapeutic potential of discoveries generated by LICR investigators.

Ludwig Centers

Mr. Daniel K. Ludwig's commitment to cancer research did not end with the establishment of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research. He also endowed the Virginia and D.K. Ludwig Fund for Cancer Research, which has created 'Ludwig Centers' at six preeminent academic institutions in the United States of America: Harvard Medical School, Johns Hopkins Medical School, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Stanford University, and University of Chicago.
